Is there anybody out there? Am I talking to myself?

Very probably but, hey, usually I like what I’ve got to say! With time on my hands and many years of listening to music, going to gigs, reading about bands and making endless themed playlists, I very belatedly decided to jump into the overcrowded and slightly unfashionable world of blogging about music in early 2023. I have very wide tastes across many genres and get a real kick in making eclectic but quality choices of music to write about.

I spent two years of shouting into the abyss with a weekly, long-form Friday evening blog presenting six tunes mainly based on anniversaries or news items from that week. In April 2025, I decided to step back to a less intensive approach for writer and reader alike. I began publishing single-song blogs, but by August, the creative juices ran dry and I decided to take a sabbatical, which lasted through to the end of the year when I published a one-off end-of-year post with a long playlist of new music that had caught my ear during 2025.

I had intended to start blogging again in 2026, but it has taken a few months to get back on the horse. The new plan is to publish occasional posts based on a theme I have dreamed up, allowing me to put six great tunes into a short, diverse playlist. Although these will still appear on a Friday evening, they will not be every week nor will they be related to the events of the week, hence losing the original weekly intent. However, I’m keeping the ‘WeekInSound’ brand but will be shortening it to WIS when writing.

Each post will have a link to the six-song playlist on Spotify and, as before, all the tunes featured will be added to the huge WIS Master Playlist, which had grown to just shy of 700 songs by the time the blog rose, Lazarus-like, from the grave. All the previous editions of WIS are available in the archives and there are frequent links back to them in current posts.

So, if you actually are out there, thanks for stopping by. If you like what you read, why not subscribe below to be notified of new posts as they appear.
